Tongue tie

Kaitlyn
I'm a new breastfeeding mom. My daughter is 2 1/2 weeks old. I have been breastfeeding using a nipple shield. It was the only way I could get her to latch. Today I went to a lactation consultation and the nurse told me she has a tongue tie which could be why she is unable to latch directly onto my nipple. She gave me some tips to try to get her to latch but I am still having trouble.
Anyway I was just wondering if anyone else has a newborn with a tongue tie and what if anything you have done for it. I was told it could potentially cause a speech impediment in the future. During the session she did latch without the shield but at home I am still having trouble. The thought of putting her through a procedure at such a young age is a bit frightening to me. She eats really well with the shield but I just want to do what's best for her.
