Best option for mobile babies

We rent and have hard wood floors. Looking to get something softer/safer for baby as she’s crawling and trying to walk already. Thinking a rug would be more versatile for later years but a mat would be easier to clean and more cushiony. Thanks!

I've heard about this rug brand called Ruggable. They are machine washable area rugs. Thought that was a cool idea. Could always add a little cushion by putting some foam tiles underneath. ￼
