New Mid-Cycle Bleeding

This is so nerve wracking and I can only imagine whats causing it. For the past 2 months, I have had ovulation bleeding for 2 days. Mostly bright red and spotting the first day, followed by light brown spotting. I know the difference between the two, but my question is why? Why is this happening to me now? I have never had ovulation bleeding. Is my body trying to tell me something is wrong? Ovulation doesnt typically hurt, but I might get a little tender. I will definitely be talking to my doctor about it, but wanted to ask here first. Any ideas what could be causing the bleeding?
