Is a nappy bin necessary?

First time Mum here. I’m researching checklist items for nursery. Is a nappy bin necessary or can I use a regular rubbish bin? I really have no idea and I don’t wanna fall into marketing traps and buy fancy stuff.

They are designed to hold the odour of dirty diapers, but the smell can soak into the plastic if it and then it will linger forever. That being said, we got the diaper genie as a baby shower gift and haven’t had troubles yet, but babies poop doesn’t stink yet either. 
You’ll get mixed reviews on them, but start with a normal garbage first and if it isn’t working, you can always get a diaper pal after.

No. We’ve just always put the poop in grocery bags and taken them outside. People will claim they work, but they’re really just used to the pee and poop smell lol. Everyone’s house I’ve been in that has one I have been able to smell the poop trash can the second I go upstairs near whatever bedroom they have it in. I can always tell when someone has one. We had a small trash can with a lid for pee diapers in our daughter’s room and even that stunk and we just started taking them directly downstairs to our kitchen trash with a lid that we change everyday.

Not necessary imo. We just use these. They're heavily scented & do a very good job at hiding the odor. We also take our trash out everyday so there's never a smell anyway.

You can use a regular bin, but I’d recommend once your baby starts solids and has more solid poops, shake what you can into the toilet before rolling up the diaper. Honestly do this whether you get a special diaper bin or not.

I personally didn’t get one because I didn’t want to take out 2 garbage bins and the bags are super expensive. I had a diaper genie and it honestly smelled more than just taking out the regular trash.

I had a Diaper Dekor for awhile and tried to convince myself that it's better than regular trash. I finally was honest with myself that the hassle and bag expense really wasnt worth it. Accumulating a bunch of stinky diapers but keeping the smell out isnt really what I want. We used regular small bathroom trash cans with small bags, if it got full or stinky then it got tied and went out.

No I think they are so gross and stinky, I prefer immediately taking poopy diapers out of the house, keep a small trash bag outside the door . Pee diapers can go in regular trash

We were gifted a diaper genie, and it was kinda nice when she was in newborn diapers, but now that she’s bigger, it fills up like every 2 days and it’s just kind of annoying. If you get one, I’d recommend just using it for the poops (especially the stinky ones) and throw the wet diapers away in a regular bin.
