Binki or no binki?

I'm leaving the hospital today finally. This is my first baby and he is not fussy at all so I'm thinking it won't be needed really but I just don't know how I feel about them yet. Opinions and experiences? :) much appreciated!!

Unless you discover you need one, don't bother. If they don't have one, they can't lose it :)

Just depends on the baby. Some don't care for it but some need the oral stimulation. They're good to use if it's in between feedings and the start getting fussy sometimes it's not because they are hungry they just crave the oral stimulation. Just do what works best for you and baby I wouldn't stress too much about them taking it if they need it. Pacifiers are designed much better now than they used to be with babies development in mind. Also if you ask me a paci is way better and more sanitary than thumb sucking.

I would say, if you ever get to a point when you've tried everything and nothing is working to soothe him, then try the binky. If you don't have to, don't.

My baby liked it to suck on when he was first born (we gave it at 3 days per my lactation consultant). Then he went through a spurt of hating it. Wouldn't take it at all. Now he takes it on rare occasions. We don't force it on him. If he doesnt want it we stop trying.

We originally said we wouldn't give my son one, but after 2 days home and he wouldn't sleep at all during the day or night (rare for a newborn), we decided to give it to him after his pediatrician recommended it. If your baby isn't fussy, then I wouldn't give them one but if you do end up needing to, it's not the end of the world. My son weaned himself off of it by 3 months. Just tossed it to the side and never picked it up again and spit it out whenever we would try to give it back to him.
