Starting a 401k at 27?

I’ve been with my job for 5 years but I haven’t put anything into a 401k yet. My company matches 50 cents on the dollar up to 6%. Should I start now with putting in 6% of my pay?

Absolutely! You have the option to increase your contribution as well. One of the many things I learned from my late father is to invest in your 401K especially if you’re fortunate to have a job that offers and matches your contribution.

Worse thing you can do is ignore retirement. I have plenty of family members who will never be able to retire. It’s an awful feeling to watch them struggle to continue working or face homelessness. The more you put away up front, the better off you’ll be.

The earlier you start, the more growth you’ll have! Try and contribute at least 6% since your job is giving free money!
