Anyone considering eating their placenta?

Has anyone considered eating their placenta and those who have how did you eat it? Make pills, put it in a smoothie or just bake it? I'm very curious and want to know. I'm thinking about it but, I want to hear your opinions and experiences on it.

Hi Jax.  I did this with my first pregnancy and experience no benefit.  The smell of the pills made me gag and it left me horribly constipated. Like a previous poster mentioned, there is no research supporting the claims that people make in regard to the benefits.  Also if you have someone else do it there could be a transmission of infections/bacteria due to lack of being able to sterilize equipment.

My doula said many of her clients have done it. None of them regretted it. Many of them claimed benefits such as less post partum depression and increased milk supply.

There is no scientific evidence as of yet. My local university is actually doing a study on it right now.

You don't have to eat it raw or anything. I think typically it is dehydrated in the oven and crushed into a powder. You can add the  powder to smoothies, chocolates, cooked food, or put it in capsules to take as a pill.

Hello I did take mine. I wouldn't say DELISH. Why would it be?  I took mine as a health supplement upon recommendation by my close friend who is a Nurse. I felt that it was beneficial for me. I didn't experience anything negative like the other poster said. I will be doing so again.  I think the idea of it is repulsive and weird. I purely did it to avoid postpartum depression and to recuperate iron from all blood I lost after delivery. I believe it is not at all comparable to a multivitamin. It is a superfood that cannot be reproduced.

I couldn't find any factual evidence that this is beneficial. Lots of "possible's" and "could be's", but no "confirmed" or "proven's". So I'll be skipping it 😊

My friend turned hers into tablets with both of her pregnancies. I'm honestly more interested I turning into a hair mask because all the nutrientsare supposedly wonderful for your hair and skin.

Haha what if they started selling animal placenta? Would people buy them to eat instead of multi vitamins?

I was reading the label in a deep conditioner for my hair once, and it contained placenta. I put it back on the shelf and walked away. I just can't.

I think breastfeeding will help with post pardom depression. I breastfed my son for the first year and was never happier or healthier. It also helped with weight loss. I would not wat the placenta. That is just gross.

"Eat" is an interesting word choice, but I do plan to consume it this time. It will be dried and encapsulated for me to take as a multivitamin during my first year postpartum. So many benefits!
