Homeschoolers?

I want to homeschool my almost 5 year old. I think I’m going to let him go to preschool this year and then homeschool him after that. So to anyone that does homeschooling, where did you start? How do you do it? Tell me anything you can honestly I’m so confused as to how it works

Start with finding out what the laws are reguarding this in the state you reside in.  Then begin researching. There are tons of resources online. I warn you, it wont be easy. The istruction, the planning, the IEPs, reports and dealing with the locality....but it.can be very rewarding. Best of luck

Do some research / learning about the Science of Reading as well.

First place to start is by looking up your state laws on homeschooling. Some require different things. Here it's just a letter of intent to the local ESD and then testing at the end of 3rd, 5th, 8th, and 10th grade. Some states require so many days or so many hours, some require portfolios and record keeping (though even if your state doesn't require that, I'd recommend keeping them anyway.) After that decide what kind of homeschooling you're going for. Computer based, book based, hands on, mixed... Second the Cathy Duffy comment. Join some FB groups for homeschooling in general and in your area (local groups will help with socializing and meet ups.)
