You only have to wake a newborn up to eat for the time that it takes for them to reach birth weight again. That's different for every baby. With my first it took her two weeks to reach birth weight but with my second he never lost weight and slept for long periods. Feeding times also depend on the baby. I'm not sure about formula fed babies but for breastfed babies they need an oz for every hour. Most babies don't go more than 4 hours without eating. Between 2 and 4 is average but when cluster feeding it can be more often. You'll learn your babies cues to tell you they are hungry. Babies are usually pretty easy in my opinion. They eat and sleep and need clean butts.
