How to start exclusive pumping after birth?

I am due to have my c-section in 12 days. I was going to breastfeed and pump but now I am only wanting to pump. How do I start exclusive pumping after I have my baby? I know your milk doesn’t come in until 5 days pp. also my doctor won’t give me a prescription for a breast pump. I have Momcozy s12pro can I use those or do I need a bigger one that you plug into the wall?

Before your milk comes in around 3-5 days pp you have colostrum, a few drops is enough. So if your plan is to exclusively pump i would start to hand expression now so you have something for baby when born if you dont want baby to nurse. Syringes is often the best/easiest to use for collection. And then start to pump every time baby is fed. Remember that baby only need a tiny tiny bit in the beginning. So look unexpected amounts, paced bottle feeding, and be sure to keep your pumping schedule - you need to pump around the clock.

When my baby was in Nicu and too little to breast feed his consultant said I must pump at least 8 times a day to get a good supply and at least once between 12am and 6am as that’s really important. Pumping isn’t the easy option you have to be dedicated. I’ve managed to get baby on the breast now so I just pump once a day so my husband has a bit of feeding time to bond. Good luck

I exclusively lumped for first 3 months with kid one And I would recommend a pump that allows you to move around and multitask if you can… I liked the spectra that was much more comfortable than the free pump that came with my insurance, but I would make sure to get the blue one that you can unplug from the wall.

Not experience here as i have nursed both my children, but i have read that you should nurse for the first 6 weeks to establish supply before going on to exclusively pumping. It might bear some looking into to help you on your journey!
