Umbilical hernia: surgery or leave it alone?

Baby girl is 8 weeks. At her one month appointment doc looked at her hernia and said he just monitors these until they’re about 4 yo. if they haven’t resolved on their own by then, he makes a referral to a surgeon. Well, today at her 2 month appointment, he noted that the heat is had grown and is very large. He made a referral to a surgeon to get their opinion. I will see what surgeon has to say but I’m leaning towards doing nothing since it’s not hurting her and doesn’t have any complications— this would just be w cosmetic thing. Have any moms dealt with these hernias? What happened?
