Prenatal testing: How do you make informed decisions about genetic screening?

Hey amazing moms! Making decisions about genetic screening can be overwhelming. How did you go about making informed choices when it came to prenatal testing? We do bloodwork for genetic testing without gender because we prefer not finding out. My cousin already has a severely disabled daughter who will never eat, live on her own, or be able to go to college. She will never read or have a very large vocabulary. They lost another baby girl a couple of years ago that would have been on life support her entire life and never have hardly any brain activity. A complete vegetative state. They got genetic testing done and the doctors begged them to not have more children. The daughter they have is the best outcome they can hope for. Their experiences have led us to do genetic testing each time. We want the ability to have our home prepared, medical support systems, and everything we could possibly prepare for in the case of having a disabled child. Including getting out home ready to sell. We know if we ever had a wheelchair bound child we would not be able to stay in our home for too many years as there is no possible way of making it wheelchair friendly.

I did genetic testing no gender reveal the first time, and will do all genetic testing and gender testing this round. It’s important to be prepared and understand how quality of life could potentially change.

I personally with this pregnancy plan to do them all as I did with my previous one. I feel like they do prepare you if there is any complications and give you a bit of peace of mind in my opinion. My sister is also pregnant and through the test and further testing her daughter was diagnosed with down syndrome so she was glad she did the test since now she's planning ahead as well as mentally preparing.
