MY FIRST PAP SMEAR WAS A PAINFUL EXPERIENCE

I’m 22 and never had a Pap smear done. I did have a physical and asked about it. I was very nervous to do it but I was like I have to get over this, you know? I’ve heard stories where it’s uncomfortable or you’ll feel pressure. I thought that would be my case. I was wrong. My doctor was inserting the speculum when I feel this sharp pain down there. It wasn’t even “pressure” it was pain. I could handle pressure but no sharp pain. It felt like it was just jabbing at me. She tried twice but failed to insert the speculum. She said it could be because I might be inflamed down there or I’m just “tight”. I tried to relax but I couldn’t because of the pain. I even cried because of the pain. I already felt exposed doing this exam. What can I do? Or ask for? I’m scared to go again because I teared a little and it hurts to sit and pee. Ps. I’ve never been sexually active or put anything down there. Must that be why it was so painful? I want to mention she used a plastic speculum it did look medium size. I’m pretty sure she used lube but I’m not 100%
