IUD check appointment procedure?

I have an appointment tomorrow for my doctor to check the placement of my iud since I got it placed about a month ago and I had one previously that expelled and never had that check up. I was wondering if anyone had theirs checked and how they check them? I’m partially traumatized from this insertion because it was so incredibly painful to the point I had to throw up on the side of the road on the way home. I’m PRAYING it’s not the same tools they used for insertion and hope someone can relieve some anxiety with their experiences 😭
