Is it wrong to say “because I’m the parent” to your kids?

I dont think it's necessarily wrong but it doesnt really mean anything to a kid and it doesnt teach them anything. They're more likely to listen to a rule/boundary if they can understand the reasoning behind it. You're better off giving them the explanation instead of a "because i said so" answer.

I think it depends on the context. Sometimes it’s better to explain your reasoning so they can have an understanding of why. I wouldn’t say it’s right or wrong though.

It’s just an annoying thing to say to someone. Can you imagine if you asked for clarification on something at work and your boss just responded with “because I’m your supervisor” instead of just explaining it to you?

I wouldn't say it's right or wrong, but we try to give an explanation of why instead. Please don't stand while you're in the bath. Why? Because you could slip and get really hurt, it's better to sit when we're in the bath. Please don't throw things in the house. Why? Because you could break something or hurt someone. They (my kids) tend to do much better when we explain why we're saying no rather than just saying "because I said no" 🤷🏻‍♀️

Kids don’t respond well to that. It’s kind of like “because I said so”. It’s authoritarian and doesn’t help them understand how to make good choices in the long run

Wrong, no not necessarily. But it’s not something I would do. I find it rude. I think children deserve explanation and I really can’t think of a scenario in which I’d say that.

If im saying "no" i like to explain my reasoning, because i want it to be clear on why i am doing so. Plus i need him to understand on why i said it and not because i just felt like saying "no".

It's not the best way to handle things right off the bat. The only time I ever do that is after I've already given an explanation and she is still arguing with me about my reasoning. So eventually, it's "asked and answered"... and when that doesn't work, it's "because I'm the parent and I've made my decision. I need you to stop arguing with me." I swear this kid is going to be a lawyer or something. She can debate anything!

The only time I say that is when there’s a situation that I can’t say the reasoning right then. And even then I tell my kids to ask me about it later and I’ll explain. I want my kids to understand why we have the rules we do.
