Should I start using my breast pump now?

Question

I'm currently 38 weeks 6 days.So my son is due on the 11th but my doc might induce me on the 5th. I have a double electric breast pump and I was curious if I should go ahead and start using it.

I just want to make sure that there is enough milk for him and I have to start work as soon as I recover from delivery. So my SO will be watching our son when I work and vice versa,

Would it be beneficial or not? I really don't want to use formula if I don't have too.

At first, it's not milk coming out, it's comestrum (or however you spell it lol) and your baby will need that! So I say to hold of on pumping until after birth.

Pumping may help to jump start labor for you, but that's about the only benefit for you right now. Colostrum is nutrient rich, but those nutrients aren't maximized until you begin breast feeding, as those nutrients are determined by feedback from your baby's saliva. If you're anticipating any nicu stays you may want to pump and save it though. I'm being induced the 12th and plan to pump to try to go into labor on my own starting next week.

I'm 3 weeks pp, I pump once a day after my LO ways.  I have enough frozen so my hubby has a couple days worth of breastmilk when I go bask to work. I figure I will just continue to add to it as the days go by. If I feel the need like there won't be enough I will pump twice a day.

The colostrum you will produce for the first few days after birth is extremely nutrient rich and beneficial to your baby. I would say don't pump until your milk comes in.

This might be a dumb question, but if you have c section does your body still know to start producing milk? Because it doesn't come in until after you give birth.

Your milk doesn't come in until after you've had the baby, at the moment as 2-4 days after birth its colestrum you are producing so if you pump now it won't make a difference because your proper milk supply doesn't come in till a2-4 days after baby is born X

You can pump it, but make sure to save all the little droplets of colostrum you get. Get those feeding syringes and keep them in the freezer. This is what my lactation consultant mom told me to do.
