Godparent dilemma

BD

We have our little girl’s christening coming up next month and need to finalise godparents. My husband and I decided to have my brother and his wife as we know it will mean a lot to them. Now my husband wants to have his brother be godfather as well. His brother is NOT a good role model for any child and is vocally anti-religion to the point where he mocked my husband when he started going to church for some comfort after out first baby girl passed away and at our (church) wedding he told my niece to put her fingers in her ears during the religious parts. Obviously a christening is a religious service and I know he’ll just go home and moan about how stupid he thinks it is. But then we both know he’ll kick off and be mortally offended if my brother is asked and he isn’t. But I don’t want to ask someone to be my baby’s godparent just to prevent a tantrum.

Would I be an asshole to put my foot down over this? I don’t want to upset my husband and in laws but then I don’t want my baby to have a “token” godparent.
