When do you switch baby from infant car seat to a convertible one?

I know it’s too early for my 9 mo old but she hatessss her car seat. She’s also super tall and she can’t straighten her legs when rear facing. 
Wanting to go with something like this

I've always started my kiddos in a convertible carseat. Never an infant seat. There are ones that go from infant to rear facing to forward facing 5 point harness, to high back booster, to booster. Takes them from baby to the very last seat they'll ever need.

A lot of convertible seats are 3-in-1, 4-in-1, there are even some all-in-1 available where you won’t have to buy another car seat the entire time they’re in one. We used infant seats, but it was honestly a waste. Every time we got somewhere (family/friends’ house, grocery store, restaurant, etc.), he woke up and I had him in a carrier. We just swapped over to the Baby Trend Cover Me 4-in-1 convertible seat, but I wish we would’ve gotten and had one from the very beginning. If we ever do have another, we will not be buying an infant seat. This seat is awesome

We just switched at almost 10m, he was getting close to the height limit and it was too heavy to carry him in it anyway
