My son was sitting up and starting to crawl at 4 months, his doctor gave us the go ahead to start purées. It definitely depends on the child and always consult with your pediatrician

All major health organizations say 6m for solids with all ready signs met. 4m is outdated information. Sitting unassisted for at least 1 min, most of tongue thrust reflex, has actual interest in solids, reaches for things, and has chewing motion in the jaw. Those all need to be met.

You can start with purees at 4 months if your baby can sit upright without support, but consult your pediatrician first.
