Sleep training a 1 year old

Kayla

We have been trying to sleep train for months and nothing is working.

She will cry for an hour plus until she passes out from, I assume, exhaustion and it’s heartbreaking every single time. When she does fall asleep like that, she wakes up on and off and does not get a very restful sleep.

I do not know what to do at this point.

I know it’s my fault because we contact napped for most of her life but I really thought a couple weeks of sleep training would work, like most of the articles say.

I’ve tried putting her down awake, drowsy, asleep, you name it. I’ve tried going in at intervals to calm her down but it makes her crying worse. I’ve tried slowly backing away from her crib (chair method) for days but whenever I she figures out that I’m not staying she loses it.

I’ve tried the crib in our room, her own room, it doesn’t matter.

I am at a loss and I’m about to just let her sleep wherever she wants to again. With me.

I hate not being able to comfort her, especially when I know exactly what she wants.

Any advice is welcome but please no judgement.
