When did you realize how privileged you were?

Today my son warmed my heart when he told me how grateful he is for what he didn't know was a privilege back then. He's 19 and it's the first time he's paying for his part of the trip (next week). My youngest is obviously being covered and my oldest acknowledged to him how lucky he was that he was able to travel and see the world and not have to worry about anything other than packing his stuff. I know it's not the material things that matter and to me travel really is something you pay for that makes you richer in culture, empathy and experience, but it's nice to hear your kids reflect back to you that you've given them a good life and that they're grateful for the experiences you've given them. I had this moment with my mom when I became an adult as well and can look back fondly on all the sacrifices she made to give us the best life she was able to.
