How common is listeria??

I know some women still eat cold meat during pregnancy when you aren’t suppose to I’m wondering how common it is to actually get listeria. I haven’t eaten any deli cold cuts but I’ve had cold chicken like on a salad or in a wrap a couple times and I’m worried but I haven’t been able to eat much and sandwich’s and wraps with cold meat is of course the only thing that sounds good to me🙄🙄

I live in Sweden but grew up in the States. My midwife looked at me weirdly when i said something about not eating cold cut meat and said that it was perfectly fine to eat as long as it's not close to best by date. I can have sushi as well as long as its fresh made. It's a vig difference between countries it seems on what is considered safe.

It’s pretty rare I believe. I’ve heard you have a higher chance of getting it from salad than deli meat.

They say it’s rare but me personally it’s not worth the risk I’m craving a Turkey sub from subway but I’m holding out until baby gets here

I eat deli meat, I just heat up the meat before I eat it.

It is super rare! My dr doesn’t even say to avoid deli meat because it’s such a low chance of getting it. Just get it from a reputable place & you’ll be fine

Im not worried about it. I eat it when I want to. It's not super often, but if I wanted it every day, I would eat it every day. I used to work full time in a deli for 2 years. I ate a sandwich for lunch almost every single day, and I never once got listeria. I've eaten SO much deli meat over different periods in my life, and nothing. If you're going to freak out about it though, then don't eat it. If it causes stress, it's not worth it imo.
