Maternity leave to soon ?

I work in a hospital in the south end of Boston. On a med surg floor, and we see a lot of drug addicts and alcoholics. I'm on my feet for the entire shift and for the most part it's not so bad physically but mentally I've had enough!!! I'm 22 weeks and last month had a patient kick me, before I was pregnant I could handle the disrespect but NOT anymore. I'm wondering if it's to early to take maternity leave? What do you ladies do & when will you take maternity leave?

Definitely ask for light duty. How many m/s floors you have? Maybe get a temp transfer to a different unit?
You'll only get leave for a certain amount of time and I'm guessing it's way too soon.

I also am a nurse. Hospital jobs are only required to hold your job for 12 weeks with FMLA... If you are looking to stop working this early I would look for a contingent position.

You gotta do what's best for you. I'm a nurse, and I plan on sticking it out till my water breaks. The longer I can stay at home with my baby the better. However it is up to you and your financial circumstances. Maybe you could go to a clinic or something.

It depends on your employer. You don't want to start too soon and then get no time at home with the baby. I totally see why you'd want to get a jump on it though. Its really up you.

You should do whatever makes you comfortable. I work as a respiratory therapist at the hospital I will deliver at so I plan on working as long as I can. I work 12hour shifts on my feet as well but only ever deal with aggressive patients in emerg and our security team is awesome so it rarely happens.

Can you get a note for light duty or anything? Is there a less stressful job you can be shifted into temporarily.   I work retail in a warehouse and when anyone has to go light duty there they get put on a register with a chair to sit in of necessary.  Wondering if these is a similar circumstance for you.
