Worldwide research shows that the SIDS rate is lowest (and even unheard of) in countries where co-sleeping is the norm, rather than the exception 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (See SIDS: The Latest Research on How Sleeping With Your Baby is Safe). Babies who sleep either in or next to their parents’ bed have a fourfold decrease in the chance of SIDS 10. Co-sleeping babies actually spend more time sleeping on their back or side 1 which decreases the risk of SIDS. Further research shows that the carbon dioxide exhaled by a parent actually works to stimulate baby’s breathing 11. Co-sleeping babies grow up with a higher self-esteem, less anxiety, become independent sooner, are better behaved in school 12, and are more comfortable with affection 13. They also have less psychiatric problems 14. The Consumer Product Safety Commission published data that described infant fatalities in adult beds. These same data, however, showed more than 3 times as many crib related infant fatalities compared to adult bed accidents 15. We practice safe bed sharing. It works very well for us. Our pediatrician is very supportive and encouraging.

We have bed shared with all of ours and a nephew. We have had no safety issues and no issues transitioning to toddler beds.

I hate bed sharing. I don't care how safe some claim it can be. Two babies died in September and October in the neighboring counties from bed sharing. I honestly see no need to bed share. Risking my child's life isn't worth it.

Co-sleeping is great for bonding and breastfeeding. But I also feel like it's a very personal decision and you need to figure out what works best for you.

I was against it till I gave birth ... Now I don't want her out of my sight... I think this is normal feeling however I'm only 6 days pp

My son slept in our bed until he was about 9 months old. Then he actually preferred his crib. It's perfectly safe if you do it right. I loved it and slept so much better. Especially if you're breast feeding! He's almost 3 now and still sneaks in between us. I don't mind it at all. I guess it all depends on your preference.

When they were newborns, no I did not co-sleep, they were in a crib next to my bed. As they got older, yes we would co-sleep with them. They are only young once. 😊 My daughter is 6 and sleeps in her own bed, but will come down to our bed sometimes. My 2 year old sleeps with my husband and I, but he got a new big boy bed for Christmas and he is starting out his night in his bed. When my babies wake up during the night or early in the morning, they will always be welcome to come cuddle us. 😉
