Speech delayed toddler
My almost 3 year old is speech delayed. She knows so much, I feel she just has a hard time figuring out the right sounds to put a word together. She’s always had a perfectionist personality, I think it’s also making her self conscious with her speech. If she’s not doing something perfectly she gets upset with herself. We don’t make a big deal at all if she doesn’t do something right, she just knows and gets upset with herself.
She has good hearing and eyesight. She loves being around people. She is so affectionate. She just has a hard time making words it seems. Like most of the words she says sound kind of funny. Like “bah” for bye. “Ha” for hi. “Na” for ya. Just little things like that. The funny thing is, if we copy it how she says it, she will tell us “no” and want us to say it properly. Like she definitely notices the difference when we say things her way.
Also if I want her to copy how I say something, she will do that but it is like one sound that sounds the same, the rest of the word is just kind of babbling. But she likes trying to copy words. It is fun for her and she will say “again”, wanting us to give her more words to copy
She is in speech therapy and has definitely improved. We are enrolling her in preschool in a few months. She isn’t around kids too often now (maybe once a month at family gatherings, but she goes to the park a couple times at least a week) so I am hoping that will help her.. idk she does say new words every few days, but part of me is still kind of concerned bc when I see her around others her age, she is definitely behind. Anyone else been in a similar situation?
