Working in retail?

Do you think it’s embarrassing to work in retail when you’re an adult ? 
During my teens and early 20s, I worked in retail. I loved it but didn’t make a lot of money. My mom worried about me, because I didn’t go to college and she wanted me to find a better job. 
I have an office job now, been there for almost 3 years. The last 8-10 months has been miserable at this job. We have been extremely short staffed and they work us all to death. Some days we don’t even get a lunch and work about 4-9 hours overtime. They make a big deal if we want to take vacation time, because if one person is off, the whole place struggles. It’s awful. 
I’ve been thinking about going back to retail because I was a lot happier there. I am worried about disappointing my family from leaving a good job with benefits back to retail. But I’m so depressed because of my job now. 
What do you think I should do???

If you like retail and you’ll be financially stable, do retail. It's not embarrassing to work in retail and nobody should be shamed for it, regardless of age. I never even notice or think about a worker's age when I'm at a store. Your mom probably cares about where you work because she probably cares about prestige or what others think, but it really doesn't matter and nobody actually cares.

I would go back to retail. Look for a managerial position in retail. Or working in the cash room and doing back stock. They make bigger wages doing the extra duties and you.will get.the experience as a manager to either keep moving up within the company or to find another managerial job somewherre else. School isnt for everyone. My sister went your route and she makes.very.good money now.

Do what’s best for you fuck what everyone else thinks your pleasing yourself and the family you’ve created not the outsiders. If we worried about what everyone though all the time we would get no we’re you will be fine I hope you find a better job !

For you mental state do what makes you happy. If you where happier working in retail then I say go for it.

I’m sure some people look down on it, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. It’s a job and if you’re there long enough, there can be chances to move up if that’s something you want. Someone has to do it. How can people buy things if there aren’t people working in those positions, you know?

i think if you’ll still be financially stable if u go back to retail u should go. do what makes u happy. plus there’s always room to grow in positions like that and it’s fast to grow

If you enjoy working retail and it's better for your mental health, do it. I don't go to any stores and judge any adult who's working retail, even fast food, I don't care what job you have or why you have it. I've had a few janitorial jobs (headstart school, charter buses, clubhouse at the gated community where we used to live, move out/move in cleaning at a community my grandmother used to manage.) A sales associate position at a wood veneer company, and then 2 accounting positions one at an HVAC company and then the other was the wood veneer company. I started as a sales associate and they tacked on accounting since they only had one guy working accounting and I had experience from the HVAC company. Sales associate was answering calls and emails. Giving ETAs and updates on orders, giving estimates for custom orders, filing orders. My absolute favorite positions were cleaning the headstart school (came in at night when no one was there and just threw my headphones in and cleaned) and accounting at the HVAC company. I really wouldn't mind another janitorial type job honestly.
