Media censorship
As some of you may know, Canada has passed federal regulations that prevent news to be broadcasted/posted on Meta, so Instagram and Facebook mostly. This is a page from a LOCAL outlet of my town that has been affected. If you are part of the Canadian demographic affected by this, has it affected you in a negative way? There are also speculations that google will hop on board to block content in Canada also meaning either you get the news straight from the source and pay for it yourself or use twitter. The argument is that news outlets need to be paid by tech giants to access their content. Are tech giants being greedy by not paying up? Are news outlets morally obligated to provide news free of charge? I personally find it frustrating. I’d like to access a variety of news from various outlets to forge my own opinions on what’s bias and what isn’t without having to pay to see what’s going on in the world.
I would also like to add how should (if it should) honest reporting be regulated. Right now there are no regulations in honest reporting, only honest advertising.
For the conspiracists, is it a deeper agenda of the government to prevent certain news from reaching mass amounts of people by claiming it’s to support journalism
