Mastitis lower milk supply?

I have mastitis and i usually pump 3oz every 2 hours and now im only pumping one...does mastitis lower milk supply? Will it go back up? What can i do to increase. Im already pumping on an every 2 hr schedule

I had mastitis for over a month and almost needed surgery. My supply was destroyed and I was never able to produce again. I really hope your supply goes back up again.

Are you treating the mastitis with an antibiotic? Mastitis is an infected clogged duct. Clogged ducts can cause a decrease in supply until it's resolved. Pumping more often can actually make it worse rather than better. Once you treat the infection and you start nursing and/or pumping, even power pumping if you have to, supply should increase. Your supply is supply and demand. So the more you pump and nurse and completely empty the breast it signals your body to make more. Stay hydrated and eat well. Reach out to an ibclc for assistance in increasing your supply

When I had a surgery while nursing I was told that pain and infection are killers for your supply. Your body is doing what it needs to to keep you alive so it’s going to stop putting so much energy into what is keeping someone else alive. If you can get the infection under control and keep your pain to a minimum you should be able to get things back up where you want them!

I don’t know what the data says, but it did decrease for me. It was temporary and came back within a week or two. I didn’t do anything special, the clog and infection just needed to clear, then it gradually increased again.

I had mastitis and the supply did not go back to what it was unfortunately. But i was able to breastfeed up to over an year. The other boob took over production.
No tips, just make sure you keep hygienic with breastfeeding and everything around your nipples. I also used lecithine supplements to prevent having another mastitis.
