Baby Shower etiquette question

So my mom and sister are throwing me a baby shower (which is amazing) and want me to put together a guest list. I have a lot of friends who live out-of-state that I would love to have there if they could come, but know it's highly unlikely. Will people consider it rude to invite them if I pretty much know they can't come? (Aka will they view it as just me asking for gifts) I don't want to offend anyone....
