We added brushing to our bedtime routine as soon as the first tooth was fully through, which was around 5m for my first and 4m for my second.

Before the first tooth came up. We used a silicone toothbrush to get our kids used to the feeling. Once the first tooth came in we switched to a very soft bristle toothbrush.

As soon as they got their first tooth. 
My oldest didn’t go to the dentist until a month before his fourth birthday. His dentist doesn’t recommend bringing them in until 3ish. I see so many people say they brought their baby in once they got their first tooth or by their first birthday and it makes no sense to me.

My daughter got teeth super early and we did finger brushing when I remembered 🤦‍♀️ by 6 months when we introduced solid foods we did a better more consistent job. Definitely start as easily as you can because it helps them tolerate it better as toddlers
