Group B Strep & antibiotics
If you were treated with antibiotics during labor as a result of having a positive Group B strep culture, what antibiotic did your hospital use? Also, did your baby contract any other bacteria in the hospital as a result of their microbiome not being properly colonized at birth? I’ve read that if babies don’t get their microbiome properly colonized by the birth canal during labor (as a result of antibiotics killing off the good bacteria down there) babies can be more likely to acquire bacteria like MRSA at the hospital. The antibiotics also alter the balance of good/bad bacteria that the newborn DOES acquire from mom. Slightly concerned about this.
Also, how old is your baby/child now and do they have any adverse health effects because of antibiotic treatment during labor?
