Spontaneous Labour Story (it’s long!) 💙
Spontaneous labour is such a completely different experience with a whole different set of emotions.
I was only ever induced with my other two children, that wasn’t on the cards this time round so I had to let my body do its thing. I was so extremely anxious about the whole spontaneous birthing experience and all the unknown.
I reached my due date with still no signs of baby coming, I had my last midwife appointment at 40 +3 where they did a membrane sweep and cervical check. I was 3-4cm dilated and around 50% effaced, baby was not engaged in my pelvis.
I left my appointment at 3.00pm and headed to the hospital for CTG Monitoring for decreased fetal movement. I left the hospital at around 4.45pm during this time I was having mild discomfort and cramping/tightenings.
During my 45 minute drive home I began getting contractions, every five minutes lasting around 30 seconds. I got home at 5.45pm not thinking much of it, I hopped in the shower to see if that would help and it did a little however by the time I got out of the shower I was contracting every 2-3 minutes with contractions lasting 30-40 seconds.
At 6.30pm I called the hospital as it was becoming a little too much to handle at home especially with having a 1 year old and 7 year old. I got the okay to come in and get checked out, I left for the hospital at 7pm by this time my contractions were coming fast and strong every 2 minutes lasting 40-50 seconds.
A very long 30 minute drive to the hospital I arrive and they immediately send me to the birthing suite, they run me a bath and I hop in and they check baby, heart rate ect.. I had my dilatation checked at 9.30 pm I was 7cm, at 9.40pm my water broke and 23 minutes later my baby was born.
Such a surreal experience to start the birthing process at home and then traveling to the hospital and not having to be monitored or worry about inductions ect is so completely different.
I am beyond happy that I was able to have a spontaneous labour, with a very quick and fast delivery.
My gorgeous boy Albie Andrew 💙
