Matt Rife DV Joke - Am I Overreacting?

Question

I asked my husband if he’d heard about the Matt Rife “joke” and how terrible it was. He said no, so I showed him the “joke” on YouTube last night and this man had the audacity to start laughing when he heard it. He knows I’ve been in some awful DV situations amongst other things. He’s also seen his dad swing at his mom like he was going to hit her. 
It made me sick to my stomach watching the man I’m supposed to love laugh at this man’s sick, twisted not funny “joke”. Between this & other things in our relationship… it really has me questioning how he values & respects me as a woman & his wife. Am I overreacting?

Maybe an unbiased opinion but comedians don’t have limits 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s the way it’s always been until everyone became so sensitive over every little thing.

Not sure why you would bring this up in general. Almost seems like a set up to get mad. I would in the future not watch comedians like this we they could be upsetting with their sense of humor

Yes you are over reacting. It is a joke. If you haven’t actually listened to Matt Rife and know his jokes can be personal. His jokes can easily be real life situations. If you are sensitive to him then don’t listen to his comedy.

this is most, if not all, of stand up comedy, they make dark humor jokes alllll the time. i’m confused why this specific joke make everyone so mad

I love Matt Rife. You’re overreacting. Comedians are always going to make jokes about touchy subjects. That doesn’t mean they support it. His comedic style isn’t for you.

Yeah you’re overreacting. Him laughing at a joke does not indicate how much he respects you or women. That said I don’t think he’s funny at all lmao way overhyped. Like we haven’t heard the women in the kitchen joke a thousand times lmfao

Im a former domestic violence counselor. DV is no joke and its minimization in the media does need to change, no question. I read the joke and dont condone it. That said, would I leave my husband if he laughed at it? No. But my husband isnt misogynistic. He cooks and cleans just as much as I do, so I know if he did laugh, it wouldnt be like  'yeah, women should learn to cook! She deserved to get hit! Hahaha!' I would personally let it go. Comedians can be vulgar and some intentionally go against PC for attention, even extreme things to try to get in the news for publicity and 'apologize' later, thats nothing new. I tend to not even watch them because of it.  Now if you think thats where you think your husband is coming from in his laughter, eg he has a pattern of being misogynistic, controlling etc then yes this may be another flag in your case.
