What happened to a Village?

I grew up knowing I had extended family members who I loved being around knowing they loved me. Despite being long distance, I knew the visits would be ecstatic, we kept in touch through phone, written letters, sending videotapes, etc. But it seems now, my parents who live 15 minutes away, just could care less about their grandchildren. And the aunts and uncles within a 20 minute drive can never find the time. I just don’t get it, we have come such a long way -technology- to be closer even when far yet everyone seems to push away. I don’t understand how grandparents have no curiosity or desire to get to know their grandchildren?
