He ended things because I didn’t care for his dog??

I’d like to state I’m a big animal person, I like them all, but doesn’t mean I’d own them all, you know? So idk if this was a petty ass excuse but he said he wanted to end things with us because I didn’t like his dog?…I not once ever said I didn’t like her…she was fine, I tolerated her…she was a very hyper out of control golden doodle (never been a fan of that breed) but she would constantly jump or bite and it started to get annoying especially when he didn’t do anything about it. Anyways, I’m more of a cat person in general. but he said because I wasn’t a fan of her things had to end….like what?! 💀 I couldn’t imagine dropping a person to work around an animal? Let alone me dumping him because he doesn’t care for my cat…It’s one thing if someone verbally or physically hurts your animal but because I wasn’t a big fan?! I’m currently at a loss??

When I met my husband I had 2 very large dogs and a cat that was kinda an asshole but I loved him. Had my husband not meshed with them we wouldn't have made it...same if my dogs just flat out hated him. My animals were there 1st and were and still are my family. I wouldn't have stayed with someone who just tolerated them because they had to. My animals are and always will be a big part if my life and no point in building a future with someone who feels differently. We now have 4 very large dogs (1 if the ones still i had before my husband) 3 cats and a bunch of farm animals as well as the fosters I bring home from the hard to adopt breed rescue I help run. You sounds very indifferent to his dog and while you tolerate it dont seem to like it by your comments. Go find a cat guy and enjoy cat life. Your ex must see his dog as incompatibility with you so cut losses and move on to cat folk.

I am more of a cat person and honestly would not be with someone who couldn't get along with my cats. They are part of my family and ultimately were there before the relationship.

Nah I get his side though. If someone didn’t like my dog I don’t think I could see a relationship with them. But that said, my dog is very well trained and doesn’t jump or bite unless protecting me

It’s one thing to take pride or view your animal as family, but to prioritize an animal over a human/relationship is a bit extreme. It’s not selfish or bad to have differences or not be a dog person, that literally would apply to anything whether it be a hobby or whatever. So imo, yes I find it petty, idc what the other comments say.

I have two dogs, i would absolutely never be with someone who just “tolerated” my dogs. Those are family to me and have been around before the person. I wouldn’t have stayed with you either

Years ago when I lived with my parents, I started having allergic reactions so was tested. My stepdad told me that if it was the dog hair causing it then I’d be the one leaving the house not the dogs 😂 I think he was joking but low key wouldn’t have been surprised if he meant it lol

I totally get his reasoning. I’ve dumped someone because I didn’t like their dog. I didn’t want to spend time with the dog in order to spend time with him. Reverse situation, but I get it. I’d dump someone if they weren’t into my kid. Same thing for some people
