How do you use diaper rash cream?

I’m pregnant with a baby boy and am trying to stock up on everything he could need. I bought some diaper rash ointment and I’ve read online that how much/how often he needs it will sort of depend on the baby. But I’ve seen mixed things online with where and how to apply. I’m going to start out using it as a preventative measure (not waiting for him to get a rash) at the very least nightly especially because I know I have sensitive skin so I figure he might too. Some things online say that you need to apply it to just the cheeks and the anus, but other things say it has to be applied to the scrotum and tip of the penis too. I’m not going to circumcise him if that changes anything. Please help a new mama out!

I used sudocream every single diaper change until my son was like 8 months old or so. Never got a rash. Not even once. Hes now 18 months and i still use it, onky if hes getting a little red.

You definitely can use it as a preventative measure. It creates a barrier between wetness and the skin. It is good for the skin to be protected. You can use something like Aquaphor as a skin protectant. But I find that Desitin works the best for diaper rash and for preventing diaper rash. It sits on top of the skin, it does not absorb. I would argue that the chemicals in the actual diapers can be absorbed into the skin when it is not protected from wetness much easier than Desitin would. It's very thick and oily and sits in a layer on the skin. It is gentle enough for daily use.

I would not use diaper rash cream regularly to prevent rashes. Baby shouldnt be getting diaper rashes easily. Youre just exposing baby to unnecessary chemicals on a regular basis that get absorbed into the blood stream, and if baby is that sensitive that they get that many rashes then thats a sign the diaper or wipes isnt compatible with their skin. 1 tube lasted quite awhile for us. I prefer Butt Paste vs Desitin.
