washing mechanics work clothes😂

this may be an odd thing to post, my boyfriend and i just moved in together a month ago, how do you guys wash your mans clothes without ruining your washing machine?! maybe i just don't know what i'm doing but there's always SO much residue left over when it's done washing, and i'm pregnant and i can't keep bending over into the washing machine to wash it out...it's ruining mine and my kids clothes, i don't want it to mess up the babies clothes either

any tips would be great! i've considered just washing his stuff at a laundromat and drying it at home but i'd like to try to keep doing it at home if i can without ruining the washing machine...tia! 🥰
