Spotting?

I'm in my first month ttc (and first month off the pill). My period's not due for a solid 7 days (based on how my natural cycle went the last time I took a break from the pill) and I never used to have pre-period spotting before, but for the last 3 days I've had reeeeeallly light spotting (like not visible when I wipe normally, just if I insert into my vagina). It's red and brown basically like a period. I'm too nervous to do a pregnancy test yet as if it's negative now I won't trust it - could this be early pregnancy spotting?? Or more likely my period about to start...?
