Lemon juice on child’s tongue for swearing?

We do not swear. I’ve been wondering where my 5 year old’s potty mouth has come from. I was in the school pickup line today and heard yelling outside as my child’s class got out, and another little boy is swearing up a storm and laughing. His mother was laughing the whole time too. Now I know where it has come from. It’s been two months. I’ve tried ignoring it, telling him to stop, offering alternative words, this boy doesn’t care and yesterday he told me to fuck off! I’ve read about using hot sauce or lemon juice for every swear and I’m willing to try because I can’t take my son out in public without him swearing for fun. Thoughts?

I grew up with the bar of soap method but never did that with my son. Also the same age. Also started swearing when he started school. Nipped it by taking privileges away - his two favorite things; staying the night with grandma and his Nintendo Switch. It didn’t work immediately — he had to learn the hard way by seeing me actually following through. I told him I understand he gets frustrated and using grown up words makes him feel better but instead of using those words, he can use kid words — like heck, darn, he says biscuits instead of “fuck” or “shit” from watching Bluey. So alternate words has worded for me luckily. But then that also became a problem because his teachers sent a note home telling me my son was saying things like “poopy head” and “poopypants” which honestly, as a lax parent I kind of chuckled at, but still reprimanded him for it because I ofc don’t want him calling his classmates those words. At home we use them jokingly with each other but I had to explain to him that it hurts his classmates feelings because they think he’s being mean. It’s been a few weeks since I got that note home and haven’t heard anything about it since. 
He has slipped a couple of times at home and I just have him sit in time-out now. But he’s pretty good about catching and correcting himself before I have too. The moment he starts to slip I give him the “😒” look and he knows lol whatever you decide to do, just be consistent! Good luck!

You can do that all you want to that's not going to stop the OTHER CHILDREN from cursing which is going to make your child think that they can do it as well. I've been there growing up. I didn't curse around my parents till I was about 11-14 years old though. But I started cursing because my classmates at 8 years old.
