Question

I'm 16 weeks pregnant with our first child (woot!) and thinking about the baby's sleep situation when he arrives. I'm probably ahead of myself, but I'm trying to get my registry ready.
All the bedrooms are upstairs and we plan to have a "play" area downstairs. The room the baby will eventually be in is currently our guest bedroom, and my husband and I decided we don't want to give up the guest bed. I was thinking about getting a bassinet for the baby's first few months (I hear it's about 0-8 that they sleep in them?), and maybe a crib for the guest/nursery room. I was also debating a pack and play for downstairs so I don't have to walk up and down all the time, especially since my dog sometimes crosses in front of me when doing so. 
Any insight on baby sleeping situations? Thanks in advance, Mama's! I appreciate your knowledge and experience!

Came back here to say that my baby has arrived and having a bassinet on each floor has been 100% worth it!  He loves his Uppababy bassinet (detaches from stroller) for daytime naps and then sleeps in a regular bassinet in our room at night.

For downstairs, we use the glider in the beginning, or right on the couch if we’re next to him. Our couch is pretty firm and flat. We also have a foldable changing table downstairs as well. For upstairs, we converted our guest room into the nursery already. And have a pack n play in our room, and that’s where he sleeps at night.

Baby hasn’t arrived yet (currently 38 wks) so can’t speak from experience, but we have a bassinet in our 2nd floor bedroom and will eventually transition to a crib when he outgrows it. Our uppababy stroller comes w a detachable portable bassinet so I plan to use that on the 1st floor for naps if he’s willing. But only time will tell. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I skip the bassinet all together and just use the crib right away. We had a bassinet for our first and he outgrew it within 4 months. So we wasted $200. And then they are used to the crib which I feel like is more comfortable for them anyways. And then you can just have your baby in your room for as long as you need to.

Having a pack n play downstairs isn’t a bad idea, but as far as sleeping it’s better to keep it consistent and have them sleep in their crib or bassinet for all naps/nighttime, unless you’re talking about the first month or two. I’m a Csection momma too and my babies always nap on me in the beginning so it’s easier to breastfeed and their naps are always so short that it just makes sense to me. 
As far as your guest bed, as much as it sucks, you should prioritize your baby’s nursery over having a guest room. We ended up putting a Murphy bed in our playroom for our guests, but our kids have their own rooms because I can’t imagine moving them around when we have guests.

We got a pack n play for downstairs but it was a complete waste of money as he wouldnt be put down at all in those first few weeks, he would only sleep on either me or his dad. Once that phase was over, I'd recovered from csection & I preferred putting him to sleep upstairs in the bedside crib. I didnt bother with a bassinet

We kept a bassinet downstairs and a crib upstairs. We tried to have the same stuff downstairs and upstairs so I didnt have to go up and down especially since I had a csection. We plan on doing the same this time around. A bassinet or pack and play downstairs is always good cause you need a safe place for the baby to sleep/nap but it is easier to put away when you have guests or visitors.
