School stopped providing transportation to my neighborhood, what can I do about it?

My child goes to our boundary school, we are home owners and pay tax to the school district. In all the years that we have lived here the school had a bus that picked up the neighborhood kids. This year, all of a sudden they stopped! They said it’s because they redid the routes and made our neighborhood a “walking distance” neighborhood.

The school is about 1.2 miles away and my daughter is only 7 (at the beginning of the year she was 6) and she’s expected to walk all of that alone ???? (Obviously I wouldn’t let that happen) but now I’m held hostage at home and I can’t get a job, I have to go pick up my child from school … if this neighborhood is walking distance then why did it get a bus every year before this year?

(Also, I see 2 buses basically drive past my house everyday but they say it’s for special needs and we can’t use that one)

What would you do? I need an outside perspective on this… thanks !
