Strange way to preform glucose test?

I have a new Doctor with this pregnancy( my 3rd), and the way they do the glucose test is way different then the other ones I've done. They sent the drink home with me to drink 1 hour before I come into my appointment and then they do the blood draw. Ok that's fine, but I've always had a base blood draw before hand to check for low blood sugar as well as high blood sugar. And if a mother does have gestational diabetes, why would you have her pump herself full of sugar and then have her drive to the appointment?That doesn't seem safe. Maybe it's me but it doesn't make sense to me. Anyone else's Doctor do the glucose test this way?

That is weird. I had a base blood taken, and then I was ordered to park it in the waiting area, so that I would burn any of the sugar off. Making you travel could have impacted the results. The nurses also watch to make sure you consume that drink within a few minutes.

With my last pregnancy in 2009 in Texas I had the base line done and had to wait in the office for an hour, I'm not sure how this one is going to go since I'm in a different state now and how many years have passed, I was talking to my youngest daughters 1st grade teacher who is pregnant also and she asked me did I have to take a glucose test and I said yes and she said she had to do one that day and her drink was in the teachers lounge fridge so I guess some doctors here do it the other way. I'll see in a couple of weeks.

That's how mine was done this time. New dr in a new city. I preferred this way because I didn't have to waste an hour just sitting in the office

My test with my midwife was exactly like that. No issues for me and I passed by a lot. I think every provider does it differently.

Even if she has GD, a slightly elevated blood sugar from the drink won't cause problems driving.

I guess it's just different then what I'm used to. With my last one they wouldn't let me leave the office to take my hubby back to work in case I got dizzy or fainted from the glucose, that was about a year and a half ago. So that's why this time confused me so much.
