Did you send your child to pre K?

Question

How old where they when they started school? I’m nervous to send my child to pre k. All the stuff happening in this world I’m seriously thinking to homeschool. But I’m still thinking back and forth. I feel like 4 years old is still young. Did you wait? Did you regret it if you skipped pre k for your child? This is all new to me and I feel like a nervous mess lol.

There are a lot of benefits to preK. If your child is developmentally  mature enough to handle going, I would absolutely send them.

My kid did pre-k at 4/5. Since kindergarten is a full day but pre-k is 3 days a week for like 3.5 hrs so we used it as a way to slowly introduce classrooms and how they run and school expectatuons. I couldn't imagine going from home all day with me to a full school day. Educational wise she was way way way ahead but socially and emptionally has been good for her and also gave her a new independence that it is her thing totally away from me. We will send our kids through public school at this point but not like that means we will never add on at home so my kids will get a great full education but my oldest is VERY social so she wanted school and wouldn't thrive at home honestly. But for my oldest pre-k has been great and I'm glad we sent her...even though I miss her still every day after I drop her off for those 3ish hours lol.

My son went to PreK 3s(two half days) and PreK 4s(two full days). Academically, it was only a slight benefit but for socializing and emotion regulation practice, it was a tremendous benefit. I don’t regret it at all. Having said that, two years ago, I also had the same thoughts as you are having. But he loved it soooo much that I quickly shifted to wishing I could give him more. He starts kindergarten this next year in September and he is ready.

I did, I’m absolutely terrified of sending my kid to school but I know I wouldn’t be able to give my kid everything he needed if I tried to homeschool. I just went to a couple schools and picked the one that seemed the best. A big thing for me was safety so I found one that had great safety measures. My son is an only child and definitely needed the socialization so I don’t regret it

Our kids aren't going to school. We've decided to homeschool. Our oldest would start school this year, but even if we wanted her to go we feel she's too young for school.

Last child I held back he didn’t start school till he was six. At five years old he was no bigger then a three year old . He has spinal bifida occulta

I think Pre-K can be beneficial. I sent my son but not my daughter. Both entered kindergarten (or will be) right before their 6th bday. Both have fall birthdays, my daughter's birthday is the district's cut off. My son did not have good social skills. Whereas my daughter does amazing interacting  with other children. I started homeschooling around 3 for both as well. I felt as though I could give my daughter what my son got out of Pre-K which is why she did not go. They are both in various sports and involved in children programs. I wouldn't be afraid of homeschooling. Take a look at the state standards/benchmarks. You can build your curriculum off that. There is so much out there for the homeschooling community.

My eldest goes to a small church based program two mornings a week. I also do tons of hands on learning at home. There's lots of benefits to finding a program that fits your families needs. We know a lot of home school families that do preschool in a private school setting.
