Testing and ongoing treatment for gestational diabetes.
Hi,
I am 28 weeks with my first baby and just got the news today, that I have gestational diabetes. My OB wants me to do a week of monitoring of my blood sugars to see if it can be controlled by diet and exercise alone.
I am feeling a great deal of shame about being diagnosed (logically I know that I shouldn’t be). I am not ready to share with people and would ideally like to keep this from the people I work with. I was wondering if you think that hiding the testing from people at work would be possible?
Additionally, if it can be managed by diet and exercise how often will I need to be testing going forward?
If it can’t be what is the next step?
I will be booking an appointment with a diabetes educator but while I can’t sleep and need to wait I thought I would ask here.
