Was I the asshole for calling a man tall in front of my friends beau?

My friend is dating the biggest douche, ironically since he's the shortest guy she's ever dated. Why? ask her.

He checks out girls in front of her while she just rolls her eyes. I girl will walk by and he'll say "Damn, she's hot" or "Wow did you see her ass? That thing is sexy" just so unnecessarily disrespectful.

Today we ended up at the same restaurant and decided to sit together. A waitress who was not ours stopped to see if everything was ok and when she walked away, he said she was so hot and now he'd become a regular.

Sometime after a very tall muscular guy walked in and I nudged her, and said "Look he's so tall, just how you like them" the guy asked if she did like tall me and I responded "Oh yeah! A guy like that is the type she usually dates, you're the shortest guy I've ever seen her with".

He didn't say anything but now she's upset with me cuz they got in an argument afterwards and he's mad at her. Should I apologize to her? Was I too petty and immature? My boyfriend sides with me, he even mentioned one really hot guy she dated that this dude knows, so he's obviously on my side.

You’re not wrong in the sense that you were trying to defend your friend and make her boyfriend have a taste of his own medicine. But you did put your friend in a situation where she’s now arguing with her boyfriend. Like you basically stirred the pot then left her to deal with him. But I’d just tell her that you understand you probably shouldn’t have done that, but that you want the best for her and know that she could do better by finding someone who respects her.

I think you took it just a tiny bit overboard. Although I love and admire what you tried to do there lol. Fantastic! The only reason I say you may have gone a little overboard is just because now she has to deal with his shit over it. I would've just said "wow look at how tall that guy is, he is so hot!" I think that probably would've been enough to shut him up. You took it one step further, by bringing your friend's preference into it, which she is definitely going to get so much shit for. 😂
