I got fired for telling the truth Update
My boss fired me today because of what happened yesterday. I worked at a technically multicultural hair salon which means we can do all hair types but honestly 90% of our clientele has white people hair. And I am a white people lol. And a majority of our stylist actually don't know how to work with other hair types. I do because my step brother and step sister are black and my step mom taught me how to do their hair type so I would braid my siblings hair all the time. So really only me and one other stylist who is mixed knows how to work with that hair type. My boss took a woman who is black and I'm honestly not sure what they were SUPPOSED to do to her hair. I think they were going to do a balayage or something, all I know is somehow my boss fucked up. That poor woman's hair was fried so badly that it was just falling off.
Here's where the problem was. The woman was not aggressive in anyway. She was just stern and saying she's not paying for this and any other salon I've worked out would not only have NOT made her pay but would have given her free services to fix it. I would not have paid for that either. My boss was telling her she could fix her for free but she still needed to pay and the woman said she does not want her touching her hair again. They were having a disagreement but my boss threatened to call the cops and this was where the problem happened. The cops in our town can be very... Aggressive. These fuckers use excessive force when they really don't need to. We live in a smaller town and they aren't ALL bad down hair but quite a few are. My boss told the police that this woman was cussing at her and threatening when I was right there. This woman did not cuss once and definitely didn't threaten her. I'm not trying to start any type of race debate but from the things I've seen in my town personally, I'm not saying everywhere, a white person calling the police and saying a black person is acting aggressive towards them (because my boss did say her race) regardless on if it's true or not, best case scenario, they're gonna arrest the black person even if it's not true, best case scenario, they're gonna harm them. This is from what I've experienced and what I've seen my own step mother go through. The cops show up and they're already acting like assholes. My manager is saying she was cussing and threatening her. The woman was saying she wasn't. The cops are already screaming at the woman so I got involved and said "Listen. I watched the whole thing. She was rightfully upset because her hair was messed up. She did not cuss. She was not aggressive at all." They cops were still being dicks but did hear me out and luckily everything did calm down. The woman did not pay and she did leave us a bad review which understandable. My boss told me today that it's clear I'm not a team player and she thinks it's best that she let me go.
I wasn't trying to not be a team player. I didn't think this situation even needed to escalate to the cops, especially when they are not great here. I just told the truth. She didn't cuss not once. She wasn't aggressive. She said she simply wasn't paying for it and I would not have paid for it either. Her hair was all falling out. I didn't think I would lose my job over it.
Update: Hey everyone! I just wanted to update. I know a lot of people want me to blast them online and say where the salon is. I don't necessarily agree with doing that. I'm just a person who believes you should only leave a review if you've been there. A lot of people in town know what happened and they are the ones that matter. Even the people in town who know(and it's a small town) have caused the owner to apparently receive death threats which I don't agree with. But I did find another job and a lot of the clientele from my previous salon are following me to this one. So the other salon is facing it's karma(again don't agree with death threats) but I brought my new salon lots of new clients and am even getting more clients myself. I did try to find the woman on Facebook to ask if I could fix her hair for free. She may not want another white person touching her hair which I understand. I just wanted to make it right. But I just wanted to let you guys know I found another job pretty quick
