Would you allow your 5 yo bring an iPhone to school?

I’m thinking about getting my daughter a cheap iPhone with the purpose of only bringing it to school so that she can call myself or her dad if she wants. Maybe also her grandparents, aunts, and uncles as well. iPhone has a setting where you can turn on assistive access which only allows access to certain contacts and apps on the phone. Am I crazy for thinking about doing this? lol I want her to be able to call me if she feels uncomfortable at school and I know she won’t ask the teacher to go to the office to call me if she wants to. Of course I wouldn’t want it to disturb the class so maybe there’s a certain time of the day that she could call us if she wants. Maybe I could work something out with the teacher. Anyways, She’s starting kindergarten so I want to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Absolutely not. Maybe teach her that it’s ok to speak to a trusted adult (like a teacher) besides you if something makes her uncomfortable. Also no school ever is just gonna let a kid whip out a phone and call mommy because they want to. If you don’t trust she will be comfortable at the school she’s going to, maybe look for a better fit.

Personally I don’t a 5 year old needs a phone. Kids needs to be kids as much as possible. If she truly needs to talk to you she needs to learn how to communicate with the teacher or office to contact you.

Imagine trying to teach a class of 30 5-year olds. Now one of them has a meltdown over something they dont want to do. You're trying to deal with that but its upset at least 3 of the others, they rush for their phones to ring mummy because she told them to. So then the remaining 26 children go for their phones because thats what the others are doing..... yeah. Absolute insanity. Kids.(especially 5 year olds)  do not need phones and they dont need them in school.

Absolutely not. The school will contact you if necessary. This will be a huge distraction. She needs to learn that at school it’s time to focus on school work, not call her entire family whenever she feels like it

Absolutely not. If a child needs to call you in an emergency they can go to the front office and use the phone there. There is zero excuse for a 5 year old to have a phone.
