How long should I work for a company before applying to new jobs?

I’ve been working part time for 3 months now after being unemployed for 5 months from a layoff. I really want to start making more money. Is it too soon to start looking for new jobs? Should I wait until I hit the year mark?

I’d wait 6 months at least unless you really need a better paying job immediately. A year is ideal but honestly if the job is very low paying waiting a year to afford things isn’t realistic

Im an employer and I think this depends. You dont want to look like a job hopper, so a history of multiple short-term jobs doesnt look good. But if overall your job history is more solid, then I think it's fine to go ahead and look. Just be prepared to answer questions about it and finesse your answer so they wont think youll ditch them quickly too for a better offer. Emphasize why you really want to work for them etc. Good luck!
