Is $175 a good amount for child support for an 11 year old?

I have 75/25 custody of my 11 y/o son. He goes over there every other weekend and for 4 weeks during the summer. CS had been set at $300 but his dad had been falling behind because of switching jobs a few times. He asked about switching it to $175 and it’s not a big deal but he wants to pay even less when he gets caught up but I don’t agree with that. I do feel bad about CE and sometimes wonder if it’s worth the arguement and I should just shut it off. 😕

I would say absolutely not. My dad paid 300 for child support for me 20 years ago and he saw me 3 times a week. It would be different if he was a super active and involved parent who is providing for his kid on a regular basis, but if he's not seeing him that much and isn't a big support for him, I would not ask to lower his already fairly low child support payments.

Not only should you not accept less right now, you should not legally lower it to anything else. You will regret it because that amount you are getting now will become less and less. Are you allowed to lessen what you do? No. You have to still make it work some how so he should not have the choice.

I get $200 for my 11 year old. Everyone tells me how extremely low it is but in my case his dad is super active in his life so that offsets it for me. I think whatever works for you is your normal?
