Mold in house
Hello,
In March of 2024 my husband and two kids moved into a rental property. We found a severe amount of black mold in the laundry room. It’s all around the perimeter and up one of the walls. The wall mold is harder to spot-it was gray dots. There was also mold in the garage and a leaking pipe in the primary bathroom. I also did an air test and it was growing mold within 12 hours.
We were released from our lease, money returned, and moved. We only spent 6 days in the house and had symptoms of mold exposure.
After we moved, the landlord had new tenant in within 5 days of us moving out. I know because I drove by.
With the amount of mold that was in this house there is NO way the mold was mitigated.
I want to notify the current tenants of the mold. There’s nothing in our lease release that says we can’t tell the state of the house. BUT I have the evidence of the landlord knowing there’s mold. I have email threads with photos of the mold and replies from the landlord.
So, if I notify the current tenants and they decide to sue the landlord, I may be called to testify and they’ll subpoena all the evidence.
I have no issue with this. Other than I don’t have a babysitter who can watch my kids if I have to go to court.
However, my husband claims it’s not our responsibility and he doesnt want to deal with court. He’s said not to notify the tenants.
This is hard for me. If it were me I would’ve wanted someone to tell me!
Would you go against your husband in order to notify the family?! They’re little kids living in it. And it feels so wrong and selfish to not tell them. I can hope they will find it. But we only found it cause we notified the symptoms and have dealt with black mold before. Idk guys.
My husband is controlling so I don’t know if I should follow him on this or if he’s trying to control me.
